1932

Building the foundation
Our story begins nearly a century ago in the town of Billund, where a carpenter named Ole Kirk Christiansen starts crafting wooden toys in his modest workshop and soon after begins selling them under the brand name LEGO.
1995
Succession to Kjeld and Gunhild
Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and Gunhild Kirk Johansen assume ownership of LEGO and the holding company KIRKBI, succeeding Godtfred Kirk Kristiansen.
2007

Kirk Kapital is established
Kirk Kapital is created by way of a demerger from KIRKBI, leaving Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen with 100% ownership of KIRKBI, while Gunhild Kirk Johansen assumed 100% ownership of Kirk Kapital.
2009
Succession of ownership
Gunhild and her three sons, Casper, Morten and Anders Kirk Johansen, obtain equal ownership of Kirk Kapital, which pursues a diversified and opportunistic investment strategy.
2017

New investment strategy
Kim Gulstad is appointed CEO of Kirk Kapital and a new, more focused investment strategy is launched. Simultaneously, Kirk Kapital establishes a new office in Copenhagen in addition to its headquarters in Vejle.
2018

Opening a new iconic home
Created by world-renowned artist Olafur Eliasson, Kirk Kapital’s new headquarters opens its doors as a work of art embodying our heritage and our veneration for the city of Vejle.
2019
A new family and the next generation
Kirk Kapital enters into an agreement with the Nissen family as its first external client, whereby Kirk Kapital shall provide discretionary portfolio management services.
Additionally, Gunhild transfers her remaining ownership share in Kirk Kapital to her three sons, Casper, Morten and Anders Kirk Johansen.
2020
Kirk Kapital Fondsmæglerselskab
Kirk Kapital establishes Kirk Kapital Fondsmæglerselskab, a regulated entity by the Danish FSA. This enables Kirk Kapital to expand its services to more clients within discretionary portfolio management.
2024
Reaching DKK 10 billion in equity value
Kirk Kapital celebrates the milestone achievement of exceeding DKK 10 billion in book equity value, while also managing a further DKK 18 billion of external capital.
